The Australian Institute of Physics is dedicated to providing a harassment-free community for everyone (regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age or religion). We do not tolerate harassment of our members or people of the public in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any venue be it online or in-person.

Members violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the Australian Institute of Physics (without a refund) at the discretion of the AIP Council. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments (related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion), sexual images online or in-person spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Members asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

AIP contractors, advertisers and sponsors are also subject to our Code of Conduct. In particular, contractors, advertisers and sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. If a, contractors, advertisers and sponsors engages in harassing behaviour, the AIP Council may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the AIP community (without a refund).

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact an AIP volunteer immediately. AIP volunteers can be identified by their name and email, on our Committees webpage, AIP volunteers will be happy to help members contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event.
