Space for Planet Earth Challenge

The goal of the Challenge is to use space technologies to find new and innovative solutions to address climate change issues in New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific Islands.

Apply and you could win up to NZ$30,000 in cash, mentorship support, and data vouchers to further your research. The Challenge is open to individuals and teams living in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands.

Applications for proposals to participate in the Challenge incubator programme for university students or startups, and high school students is open between 2 August – 31 October, 2021.

Participation in the Challenge incubator programme includes webinar sessions on the problem areas, technology, and tools for leveraging satellite data to address climate change issues. It includes seminars on design thinking, rapid prototyping, user validation, and pitch coaching. Teams will leverage Planet data and platform, as well as technical expertise from climate and space experts. Advisors and Mentors will help teams develop their solutions.

A short proposal of the idea should include:

Background of the applicant or team members

General technical approach

Specific aspect of problem being addressed

Projected plan and schedule

Specific request for technical support (satellite data, or other)
