The Australian Institute of Physics, with support from the Department of Education, Science and Training offered two series of seed grants this year, enabling a total of 17 projects to be successfully realised across Australia, as part of the Einstein International Year of Physics celebrations. This free ‘show’ toured Darwin, Alice Springs and Melbourne during National Science Week. Joined by master didj player Geoff Shores and record-breaking harmonic singer Dean Frenkel, physicist Lloyd Hollenberg revealed why he regards the didjeridu (or yidaki in the Yolngu language of Northern Australia) as an extraordinarily complex instrument, both acoustically and musically. Mix in piano playing, sound wave demos, dinosaur recordings and audience participation for a unique experience. BYO didj optional or use one of our ‘pipes’.
