2004 Bragg Medal awarded to Warwick Bowen (ANU)
This year the Bragg Medal committee examined a number of exceptional dissertations each worthy of the Bragg Medal. However, the committee was most impressed with the depth and scope of new and original contributions reported by Warwick Bowen in an exemplary thesis. This describes experimental and theoretical studies of quantum effects leading to new insights on such topics as quantum entanglement, teleporting information, and polarization squeezing. These contributions have resulted in 23 peer-reviewed publications including 10 first authored papers in leading journals, and also articles in the popular press and media. The thesis was described by reviewers as "a tour de force", "superb in many different categories", and "the results described...are quite spectacular taken individually and even more impressive considered as a whole."
