The Australian Institute of Physics Women in Physics Lecture Tour celebrates the contribution of women to advances in physics. We are seeking a woman working in Australia, who:
• has made a significant contribution in a field of physics research
• has demonstrated public speaking ability.
• is available to do a tour of Australia , covering Canberra and each of the six Australian State capital cities during a 2 to 3 week period ideally coinciding with Australia’s National Science Week (14-24 August 2004).
Presentations include research colloquia, public lectures and school lectures - subject to negotiation with the various AIP branches and their contacts. Air travel within Australia, and accommodation will be provided.
Interest in the Lecture Tour should be communicated to the Tour Coordinator ASAP followed by a formal nomination as arranged with the Coordinator. Self-nomination is welcomed, as are nominations from branches or employers/colleagues. Nominations should be forwarded by mail, fax or email to arrive by Tuesday 20 April 2004.
NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS
A nomination should be in the form of a 300-500 word letter (or email message) which includes:
· a brief statement of the research area of interest to the nominee,
· an outline of her significant contributions to physics,
· references to key publications in which these contributions were presented, and
· some evidence of her ability to give a lecture which will excite an enthusiastic response in senior secondary and undergraduate students.
For self-nominations, we would like the names of two referees who can provide further information about the nominee, particularly concerning her ability to give a lecture, which is appropriate for the target audience.
