Meet the Keynote speakers
- Bertram Batlogg (CMP) - is
a Distinguished Professor at ETH, Zürich. In his recent work on organic
conductors he has discovered the electrically powered organic laser, the
fractional quantum Hall effect in organic semiconductors and superconductivity
in organic crystals.
- Richard Maughan (MP) - is a Professor
of Medical Physics, he played a major role in establishing the fast neutron
therapy accelerator facility at the Karmanos Cancer Institute and is currently
working on developing a proton therapy program at the University of Pennsylvania.
- Mark Sceats (ACOFT) - is Chief Executive
Officer of the Australian Photonics Cooperative Research Centre. The centre
has over 200 staff and sponsorships from 5 Universities, TAFE, DSTO and
24 companies and which has spun off 8 companies. He holds 4 patents on photonic
devices.
- Sheila Tobias (PEG) - is from Arizona,
trained in the liberal arts, now focuses on why bright, ambitious college
students choose not to study the
physical sciences. She is working on professionalizing the science master's
degree to attract more management students to science.
- Karl
Kruszelnicki will be giving the public lecture at the Congress on
Tuesday, 9 July at 7.00 pm. It will be free to delegates and the general public.
The talk will be titled:
"Great Moments in
Science © - The Four Forces and Murphy's Law"

The Congress
will be opened by the Minister for Science, the Hon Peter McGauran at 10.15
a.m.

Day Talk - Wednesday,
10 July at 4.00 pm.

- Alan Walsh Medal: Dr Ian Bassett and
Dr John Haywood, Australian Photonics CRC
- The Bragg Gold Medal: Dr Nicole Bell,
University of Melbourne
- Massey Medal: Professor Bob Delbourgo,
University of Tasmania
